Valvuloplasty

This procedure is used to widen a heart valve that has narrowed due to aortic valve stenosis. Aortic valve stenosis can be caused by a congenital heart defect or it can develop during aging. In this procedure, a thin, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted through an artery and threaded into the heart. The doctor then inflates a balloon at the end of the catheter to open the valve.
