Cardiac Event Monitoring

A cardiac event recorder is a portable device that records electrical activity in your heart. The device makes a record of your electrocardiogram (ECG) when you are experiencing a symptom or “event.” Cardiac event monitoring is used to diagnose patients with a fast, slow or irregular heartbeat called an arrhythmia.

You perform your normal daily activities while wearing the monitor. The monitor does not continuously record the electrical activity in your heart. For some monitors, you will need to start the device when you feel symptoms. Others will start automatically if they detect an abnormal heart rhythm.
