This non-invasive test involves the use of a Computed Tomography (CT) scan to check for calcium deposits (plaque build-up) in the walls of the arteries. It typically only takes a few minutes. The test aids in the early detection of possible heart disease or heart disease risk, even before symptoms are present. Cost is $50.
The test may be recommended for individuals with high risk factors, including:
- Family history of heart disease or diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Men aged 45 and older
- Women aged 55 and older
